Why create a Saas?
My colleague from college and I decided to embark on a larger-scale project primarily to put into practice our knowledge of creating a robust web application, one that is also used by others and solves a specific problem.
We noticed that some merchants and entrepreneurs, especially restaurant and snack bar owners (including larger establishments), lacked an efficient way to organize and manage their orders, internal cash flow, inventory management, and generating reports. It was with this problem in mind that we decided to propose a solution: to develop a SaaS for managing orders and revenues for restaurants and snack bars.
By doing this, besides gaining extensive knowledge in the entire software development process (pleasant design for navigation and use; responsive and performant frontend; robust and secure backend; DevOps for monitoring and managing this infrastructure) and helping solve some customer problems, we also hope to earn some extra income kkkkk.
How we gonna solve this problem?
We will offer a monthly subscription that provides access to our application, where it will offer: order and product management and monitoring; management of one or more establishments owned by the same owner; a dashboard displaying revenue metrics, order quantities, canceled orders, the most purchased products by customers...; reports showing all metrics; automated payment systems and much more.
Design and Frontend
The design of our application was entirely done in Figma, an exceptional tool with which we are very familiar.
We decided to create a modern design that is also easy to navigate and free from visual clutter. Since it's highly likely that our users will use our system while taking and creating orders, our interface must be simple, fast, and efficient to meet their needs. However, we did not compromise on beauty and modernity, as we aimed to preserve a good experience for our customers.
After designing in Figma, we proceeded to create our Frontend. Since we hadn't started developing the Backend of our application yet, we implemented all our functions and potential interactions using dynamic data from an API with static data, but fully prepared for when we have the API, requiring minimal coding for integration.
Our Frontend was built using technologies we are already familiar with, such as TypeScript, ReactJS, and NextJS. To accelerate the production of our application while maintaining our creativity and uniqueness as a site, we chose to use the collection of reusable components Shadcn/ui along with Radix UI. For form creation and data validation, we used React-Hook-Form and Zod, respectively. Finally, for creating charts, we used the Tremor library.
